I consider summer to extend right up to November but for Sea Blossom Soap it's never too soon to start making soaps and cremes, lotions and scrubs for holiday gift shopping season. So while I'm still spending weekends on the beach (heaven) it's time to get to work!
The newest Sea Blossom Soap will be the Chocolate Raspberry Vanilla Truffle Goat Milk Soap. So far I've just made 2 bars, as a prototype to see if it's coming out the way I want it to. It came out great, except that I need to add a little more chocolate fragrance. Without a lot of the chocolate fragrance the chocolate layer is too pale. The fragrance will turn it browner, just as it does in our Sea Blossom Chocolate Goat's Milk Soap.
Chocolate Raspberry Vanilla Truffle has a deep pink squiggle on top, then a pale pink layer, white layer and brown layer in an oval bar. I think it's really pretty, and hope everyone does too. When I make the next batch (more bars this time) I'll take pictures and put it up for all to see. If only I could send out the scent, it's a wow!

A million thanks to all who saved my house in Fire Island from damage from Hurricane Irene.
First, my wonderful renter, Regena, and her friends battened down the house, stashing all the deck stuff and closing up. Then, they evacuated. I thought of some little stuff still out and called my neighbors who fortunately were still there. As Jerry went over to get the stuff, Minda called me from the ferry after closing up her house, telling me Gena G noticed that my kitchen window facing the ocean was still open. I called Erica who went over and closed the window. I am so grateful to all their help.
I finally got back there last Sunday and everything was fine, with a few exceptions. My lower front garden looks beaten up and possibly many plants are lost from the salt water that soaked them. I probably won't know till spring. So after sweeping a lot of sand and tying lots of plants back up it's only a little battered.
The biggest problem is my roof which lost a lot of shingles. Now I wait for the estimate and insurance reports. But compared to so many others who are still under some water, we are so very lucky!

Hurricane Irene is bearing down on the whole east coast but I' staying optimistic for my craft fair this Saturday in Shelter Island. It's on the north fork of Long Island, where hurricane Irene is scheduled to hit. The fair is my last one of the season and I really looked forward to a fabulous day.
I'll be bringing lots of my beautiful Sea Blossom soaps, lotions and spa products. Also a plastic tarp! But here's hoping the fair goes off without a problem.
If all goes well, the storm will veer off to the east but right now the reports are opposite, it's heading west (towards us). But it is looking like the hit will be sometime between Sunday and Monday so the fair might be okay. I just hope Shelter Islanders will still be there on Sat. and will come out to shop.
I'm wishing everyone who is in the path of the storm to stay safe and sound.

Now that summer is in full swing, I've taken time off to enjoy the beach and my garden. Sea Blossom is busy but for a few days soapmaking is taking just a slight back seat as I get to enjoy the best of summer. For a gardener, it's the very best time - everything (or most everything) is blooming, the heavy work is done, and all you need to do is snip here and there, feed, water and enjoy. I just love to show off my garden when it's looking good! Here are some of my deck plants -
Hydrangeas are having a boom season, and my baby Anabelles, taken from my huge one, finally are thriving in the front garden. The marigolds are loving the heat but I'm still waiting for most of the dahlias and cannas to bloom. Day lilies are mostly finished, as are the Asiatic lilies (mine are Lollipops). Casa Blanca orientals are budding, and tomatoes are coming along - cherries are ripening and I was able to pick one Japanese Black Trifle (an heirloom variety I love). I hope you are enjoying the fruits of your gardening labor too!
That's purple Imagination verbena on the left, such a fabulous plant, here with Lemon Drop Marigolds I grew from seed. And on the right, red verbenas look great with the sweet potato vine and coleus.

The Westhampton Arts and Craft Festival was held last week in perfect weather - cool, breezy, sunny - I couldn't have asked for more! Both Nautical Soaps and Natural Soaps were big sellers, and Lemon Meadow Lotion won out in the lotion department.
Here I am at my booth!
Thanks to all who came out - especially my previous customers who came back for more Sea Blossom soap goodies. It's so wonderful to see you in person! I do appreciate your continued business.
Next fair, Pine Walk Fair in Fair Harbor, Fire Island on July 4th Saturday.
Thanks to all who came out and bought soap! My new Raspberry Vanilla Swirl Scrub and Golden Anchor Soap were big hits. Look for the Raspberry Vanilla soon on seablossom.com! Here I am at the Hoboken Festival yesterday! I had a great day - perfect weather. Big crowd. Lovely vendor-neighbors too!

Ahoy mateys! I've been busy creating new Nautical Soaps for Spring!
My first new soap is Dolphins. I must thank Denise Marks at Mold Market who brilliantly provided the basic idea. In my version, the Dolphins and "ocean waves" are embedded inside the clear soap, with an aqua blue soap background. The fragrance is Ocean Breeze, as in our best-selling Lotion.
My next new Sea Blossom soap is Golden Anchor. I made little gold soap anchors and put them inside a dome of clear soap, and put navy blue soap underneath. The fragrance is a new one for Sea Blossom, and I think it will be a big hit with men as well as women.
I hope you'll check out Dolphins and Golden Anchor soaps at Seablossom.com!
